Ocean Park's final Arctic fox, Siu Go, died recently at age 11 due to age-related decline, marking the end of the Arctic fox display in Hong Kong after 14 years.
Siu Go, the last Arctic fox in Ocean Park’s Polar Adventure zone, passed away from irreversible organ failure caused by old age. Following the earlier death of her companion Trinity, the Arctic Fox Den was temporarily closed.
Siu Go served as an animal ambassador for 11 years and was beloved by many visitors.
News of her death surprised fans, with online comments expressing shock and sadness, including remarks that she was seen just two weeks earlier and hoped to have said goodbye.
Ocean Park introduced Arctic foxes when Polar Adventure opened in 2012. A male from the US, Gochi, and a female, Mochi (transferred from Agriculture Fisheries and Conservation Department), produced six cubs in 2014—the first born in Hong Kong and a key breeding success.
Over time, the group dwindled due to health issues like epilepsy and tumors.
By late 2024 only the two elderly females, nicknamed “Arctic Fox Grandmas” by netizens, remained.
With both now gone, the Arctic fox chapter in Hong Kong has closed for the time being.
