A seven-seater MPV rear-ended an electric private car at traffic lights in Kowloon Tong early on early Wednesday (Jan 28), pushing the vehicle about 10 meters forward before mounting a traffic island. The MPV driver fled the scene.
Police said the crash happened at about 5am on Waterloo Road near the junction with Hereford Road. A black ZEEKR electric car had stopped at a red light while heading towards the Lion Rock Tunnel when it was struck on the right rear by a white Toyota MPV that failed to stop in time.
The Toyota then lost control, mounted the traffic island on the right and smashed through about two metres of metal railing before coming to a halt. The driver reportedly left the vehicle without saying anything and escaped.
The ZEEKR driver was not injured. Police are investigating and tracing the fleeing driver.
The MPV has not been reported stolen and no suspicious items were found inside.
