A 31-year-old man was arrested for wounding after allegedly slashing his 27-year-old female colleague's neck in a locked optometry room at the Tin Yiu Plaza eyewear shop on New Year's Eve, before cutting himself, amid suspected romantic disputes.
The incident unfolded around 1.30pm on Wednesday.
The man, surnamed Wong and the store's sales manager, was off-duty but returned and asked the optometrist, surnamed So, to talk in the room. The door was locked immediately after.
A male colleague heard a scream but continued serving customers.
About 20 minutes later, So cried for help and the police, while Wong claimed they were fine. The colleague tried the door unsuccessfully and alerted authorities.
Firefighters broke in, finding So semi-conscious on the floor with an 8-centimeter right-neck wound, plus cuts on her left forearm and palm. Wong, unconscious and partially on top of her, had a 1.7-centimeter right-neck injury.
Both were rushed unconscious to Tuen Mun Hospital's ICU. By January 1, Wong's condition was serious and remained critical; neither was fit for statements.
A bloodstained fruit knife was seized. Police believe Wong attacked So before self-harm.
Colleagues saw their relationship as normal; neither mentioned the other to family or friends.
The case proceeds as wounding.
