The 48-year-old defendant, Lam Kong-lung, appeared at West Kowloon Magistrates' Court this morning.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to using documents to deceive his principal and fraud.
In 2018, as a serving sergeant, Lam concealed around HK$710,000 owed to two finance companies when applying for a HK$62,280 loan from the Hong Kong Police Savings Mutual Society, falsely declaring no outstanding debts.
The society approved the loan based on his misrepresentation.
In 2021, he similarly hid debts totalling HK$238,410—owed to the same finance companies and the society—when applying to extend service beyond retirement age to 60 under a police scheme.
Lam, promoted to sergeant in September 2016 and retired in December 2023, remained silent under caution after arrest.
Initially sentenced to 220 hours of community service, he completed only part before ceasing attendance.
Principal Magistrate Don So Man-lung adjourned the case to January 20 for updated community service and probation reports, ordering Lam remanded pending review.
