Nearly 600,000 people entered Hong Kong on Sunday as the Christmas long weekend came to a close, with Hong Kong residents making up 457,000 of the arrivals.
As of 9pm, total arrivals reached 598,000, with overall crossings hitting 1.015 million for the day, according to Immigration Department figures.
Over the four-day holiday period, total cross-border movement exceeded 4.668 million, with visitor arrivals reaching 592,000 – at least 48,000 more than the same period last year.
The department had projected around 11.52 million crossings during the Christmas and New Year holiday period through all sea, land and air checkpoints. It forecast December 25 as the busiest day for land departures and December 28 for arrivals.
