Viral videos show cross-border minivan's reckless driving on Christmas Eve in HK

A black seven-seater minivan with mainland-Hong Kong license plates sparked outrage after videos spread online showing it committing dangerous maneuvers in Tsuen Wan and Pok Fu Lam on Christmas Eve.

In the most alarming clip from Yeung Uk Road in Tsuen Wan around 9pm, the driver, apparently lost, drove against traffic before making a forceful U-turn across a zebra crossing while the pedestrian green light was on and crowds were crossing. 

Several pedestrians scattered to avoid the vehicle, and at least one angry man banged on its body in protest. 

The driver ignored this and accelerated away toward Tsuen Wan Plaza.

Another dashcam video, believed to capture the same vehicle earlier, showed it suddenly U-turning on Pok Fu Lam Road near a gas station despite oncoming traffic, forcing other cars to brake sharply.

Online commenters condemned the driver's actions as reckless, urging people to report the license plate to police. 

Many noted that drivers unfamiliar with Hong Kong roads should not take such risks, especially during crowded holiday periods.

Legal experts stated the behavior likely amounts to dangerous driving, punishable by up to a HK$25,000 fine and three years' imprisonment, with harsher penalties if injuries occur.

Police urged all road users to follow rules and prioritize safety.
