The Singapore community in Hong Kong has raised more than HK$1.83 million to support victims of the deadly fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, expressing solidarity with families affected by one of the city’s most devastating recent tragedies.

In a joint statement, the community said it was deeply saddened by the fire, which claimed multiple lives and displaced many families. It extended heartfelt condolences to those who lost loved ones and best wishes to everyone affected by the disaster.
The statement also paid tribute to firefighters, frontline personnel, and volunteers for their tireless rescue efforts, and commended the Hong Kong SAR government for its swift decision to conduct comprehensive investigations aimed at preventing similar tragedies in the future.
The donation drive was jointly organized by the Singapore International School (Hong Kong), the Singapore Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong), the Singapore Association Hong Kong, the Singapore Consulate-General in Hong Kong, Friends of Hong Kong in Singapore, and Friends of Singapore in Hong Kong.
The organizers said the initiative raised a total of HK$1,830,482.50, which will be donated to the government-established support fund to assist victims of the Tai Po fire. They added that several Hong Kong-based Singapore companies and individuals had also made separate donations in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
The statement noted that Hong Kong’s resilience and “Lion Rock Spirit” have repeatedly shone through in times of adversity, adding that the Singapore community stands firmly with Hong Kong and its people during this difficult period.
The Singapore International School (Hong Kong) said the initiative reflected its commitment to the wider community. “At Singapore International School (Hong Kong), our mission extends beyond the classroom walls. When a tragedy like the Tai Po fire strikes our wider Hong Kong community, we feel duty bound to step up and support those in need. This initiative is our sincere expression of solidarity with the affected families. We hope that our collective effort can bring them a measure of comfort and assistance during this difficult time, and simultaneously reinforce the values that define a caring society.”
The Singapore Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong) said the business community shared in the grief felt across the city. “The Singapore business community in Hong Kong feels the loss and pain suffered by the victims of the Tai Po fire; and has raised a small sum as its contribution to the Hong Kong government’s efforts in helping the victims.”
The Singapore Association Hong Kong also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting recovery efforts. “The Singapore Association in Hong Kong stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Hong Kong and pledge our full commitment to supporting the recovery and rebuilding efforts.”
Singapore’s Consul General in Hong Kong, Eric Teo, highlighted the close relationship between the two cities. “Singapore and Hong Kong are close partners and longstanding friends. Both cities enjoy robust cooperation in multi-faceted areas and very warm people-to-people ties. It is truly heartening that the Singapore community in Hong Kong can come together during times like this to show that we truly care for our friends in Hong Kong.”
