Incense suspected as cause of Tai Wai flat fire that forced 200 to evacuate

Around 200 residents were evacuated in cold weather after a flat fire broke out in Tai Wai on Sunday afternoon.

The blaze occurred at Mei Tin Estate’s Mei Lai House at about 5pm. Firefighters deployed one hose and a smoke helmet team to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been caused by incense burning during religious observances igniting nearby items. The flat tenant discovered the fire upon returning home and is assisting with the investigation.
