The operation followed the Police Disaster Victim Identification Unit (DVIU)’s search conducted on Saturday (Nov 29) at Wang Yan House and Wang Tao House, where no human remains were found, though three cats and a turtle were rescued.
The grim task continued this morning (Nov 30) at the most severely damaged blocks—including Wang Cheong House and Wang Tai House—where officers expected it could take three to four weeks to complete.
A team of nearly 200 DVIU officers, clad in full-body protective gear and helmets, re-entered the affected buildings around 8am to search for human remains, body parts, or ashes.
During the operation, several officers were seen carrying a white bag out of the building, followed by a blue one.
Sources reported that the team recovered one body in Wang Shing House, which was transported from the scene before noon.
Images circulating from the affected buildings reveal the extent of the devastation, with interiors reduced to ashes, ceilings peeled away, and walls blackened.
