Hong Kong's men's foil team has made history by winning the city's first ever fencing gold medal at the National Games, with several bureau chiefs attending as cheerleaders at Kai Tak Sports Park.
The team comprising Edgar Cheung Ka-long, Ryan Choi Chun-yin, Leung Chin-yu and Lawrence Ng Lok-wang defeated Fujian 45-34 in the team foil final on Tuesday at the 15th National Games.
Security chief Chris Tang, Constitutional and Mainland Affairs chief Erick Tsang, Culture, Sports and Tourism chief Rosanna Law, Housing chief Winnie Ho, and Home and Youth Affairs chief Alice Mak were among officials witnessing the historic victory.
Ho posted on social media that despite busy schedules, she and other bureau chiefs made time to support the fencing team at Kai Tak Sports Park, serving as the "best cheerleading team" shouting "Go Hong Kong team" with all their energy.
She said the Hong Kong team showed no relaxation against Fujian, demonstrating strong mental quality and tactical adjustments against opponents who had previously defeated them. Ho congratulated the team and thanked Fujian for delivering an exciting match.
