The Hong Kong men’s foil team advanced to the men’s team final for the first time in history at the 15th National Games on Wednesday after a dominant performance.
Olympic champion Edgar Cheung Ka-long, who earlier claimed an individual bronze on Sunday, teamed up with Ryan Choi Chun-yin, Leung Chin-yu and Lawrence Ng Lok-wang to defeat Jiangsu 45–30 in the semi-finals without facing major resistance.
In the semi-final match, Hong Kong fell behind 3–5 in the opening round, but Cheung quickly regained momentum in the second, scoring 7–2 against Zou Tianyi to reclaim the lead.
Leung Chin-yu followed with a 5–1 win in the third round, Choi then scored a clean sweep against Zou Tianyi. By the end of round four, Hong Kong had built a commanding 20–8 lead.
Jiangsu struggled to close the gap in the following rounds, and by the end of the eighth bout, Choi had extended the advantage to 18 points.
Hong Kong eventually sealed a 45–30 victory, reaching the final starting 7.30pm tonight, where they will face Fujian with gold in their sights.
