A 66-year-old foreign man was arrested on suspicion of vandalizing campaign posters for the Legislative Council election in two separate incidents in Discovery Bay.
Police received the first report last Friday (Nov 14) after a security guard discovered that campaign posters on a bus stop notice board had been torn down.
Three days later, campaign posters of four candidates on notice boards at two other bus stops and in the lobby of a housing estate were also found destroyed.
Following an investigation, officers identified the suspect and arrested him at a residential unit in Discovery Bay. The man claimed to be an administrator.
He has been granted bail pending further investigation and is required to report to the police in mid-December.
Under the Crimes Ordinance (Cap. 200), anyone who unlawfully destroys or damages another person’s property with intent may face up to 10 years in prison.
