The government will team up with seven media organizations to stage an outdoor variety show on the eve of the Legislative Council election in an effort to boost public interest and encourage voter turnout.
The show will be held at AXA x Wonderland in the West Kowloon Cultural District at 8pm on December 6, featuring singing, dancing, magic performances, and other acts. Admission will be free, with tickets to be distributed at a later date.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang Kwok-wai said the event aims to foster public engagement in the election and motivate residents to vote, ultimately helping “unify community strength to build Hong Kong together.”
When asked about the event’s cost, Tsang said he could not yet provide figures as preparations were still underway.
The government has also adapted Aaron Kwok Fu-shing’s classic song “Strong” into the election’s theme song. More than 70 singers, performers, and program hosts from different generations — including Alan Tam Wing-lun, Cally Kwong Mei-wan, and Albert Au Shui-keung — will take part in the recording.
Meanwhile, addressing concerns over several television stations suspending their election forums, Tsang said decisions on hosting such programs rest with individual broadcasters.
He emphasized that candidates should not be confined to any single format when presenting their platforms and that all approaches that help voters better understand them should be encouraged.
