Yau made the remark on Thursday (Oct 16) when he attended the opening ceremony of "SME ReachOut: FUND Fair plus Tech Sourcing 2025."
The commerce minister noted that SMEs should adapt flexibly to the rapidly changing global economy and the vigorous development of new technologies.
The government is committed to supporting them in expanding e-commerce sales channels in the mainland and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets through the Hong Kong Shopping Festival over the next three years.
Yau also highlighted that the "Creativity • E-commerce – Beyond Limits" program will be launched to provide one-stop business matching and referral services, strengthening collaboration between Hong Kong enterprises and e-commerce service providers.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Export Credit Insurance Corporation (ECIC) will increase financing support for local e-commerce businesses and expand the coverage of free buyer credit checks to all markets insured by the ECIC.
Yau said the measure aims to assist Hong Kong businesses in diversifying their export markets and encouraged SMEs to take full advantage of these initiatives to accelerate their upgrading.
