In a speech delivered at an awards ceremony for a social media post creation competition themed “Hong Kong National Security Law—Safeguards and Hopes,” the city’s security chief, Chris Tang, emphasized the ongoing risks to national security.
He noted that some individuals with ulterior motives use biased storytelling, distortion, or defamation to attack both the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the central government.
Such tactics, often described as “soft confrontation,” aim to sow hatred and manipulate public sentiment.
Tang encouraged the public to think critically and be cautious in identifying false news and misinformation.
Drawing on the competition’s success, he called on citizens to use social media platforms to share accurate and positive information, while also raising awareness about national security among family and friends.
He also announced an upcoming initiative to further promote national security awareness.
A school play titled "Andy and Security Bear," designed to introduce national security concepts in an engaging way, will launch next month with a debut performance.
The production will tour primary schools before being staged publicly in theaters next year, aiming to embed the message of “Security Brings Prosperity” within the community.
