Distressing message from missing 17-year-old sparks Shing Mun Reservoir search

A search and rescue operation is currently underway at Shing Mun Reservoir after a 17-year-old boy was reported missing on Thursday morning, following a distressing message he had sent.

Police were alerted at approximately 7am by the boy's father, who reported his son had sent a message indicating intentions to harm himself before leaving home and subsequently cutting off all contact.

Upon receiving the report, police traced the boy's last known location to the area surrounding the Shing Mun Reservoir in Tsuen Wan.

Emergency service personnel, including police and firefighters, were immediately dispatched to the scene. A search of the reservoir and its surrounding woodland is currently in progress as rescuers work to locate the missing teenager.

A helicopter from the Government Flying Service has also been dispatched to assist.
