A total of 382 flights were canceled on Tuesday (Sep 23), with another 43 delayed, according to an Airport Authority announcement.
The disruptions came as Super Typhoon Ragasa approached Hong Kong, forcing flights to be rescheduled for earlier or later departures.
The typhoon's impact was felt directly by travelers like a family of four from mainland China, who had to arrive at the airport five hours earlier due to a rescheduled flight.
They explained that their initial plan to take a ferry from Zhongshan Port was canceled because of the typhoon, leaving them with no choice but to spend nearly HK$2,000 on a chartered ride to the airport.
Another traveler, originally scheduled to fly to Seoul in the morning, was notified that their flight was fully booked and that they would have to take an alternative flight departing in the afternoon.
The traveler expressed frustration and concern that this flight might also eventually be canceled.
In contrast, a traveler heading to Bangkok noted that their flight had not been canceled but said they would continue to monitor for updates.
In response to the disruptions, Cathay Pacific has waived rescheduling fees for flights from Tuesday to Thursday (Sep 23 to 25). Meanwhile, EVA Air canceled all inbound and outbound flights for Tuesday and Wednesday, totaling 38 flights.
