An imported case of chikungunya fever was recorded on Wednesday, according to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health.
The newly logged case involved a 5-year-old boy living in Lei Cheng Uk Estate in Sham Shui Po, who visited Heshan and Foshan in Guangdong from July 15 to August 31.
The boy developed a fever last Friday (Sep 5) and a rash on Sunday (Sep 7). He attended the Caritas Medical Centre the next day and received treatment in a mosquito-free environment.
Three household contacts, along with two companions to Heshan, have no symptoms and are currently under medical surveillance.
Hong Kong has recorded 14 chikungunya fever cases this year, all of which were imported.
Guangdong logged 178 new cases last week, representing a decrease compared to the past two weeks, according to CHP.
CHP also reminded that although the situation in Guangdong Province has been under control since late August, Chikungunya fever outbreaks are still occurring around the world. Citizens should be aware before traveling.
