A rainstorm swamped a stray dog shelter in Pat Heung, Yuen Long, early yesterday. Fortunately, all dogs were reported safe after a swift rescue operation.

The Observatory issued the Black rainstorm signal twice — first at 11.45pm yesterday and again at 5.50am today — marking the fourth such warning in just over eight days.
The shelter, House of Joy and Mercy, was inundated as muddy floodwaters surged into the site, trapping dozens of dogs in metal enclosures.
In a social media post at around 6.15am, the shelter shared video footage of the flooding, with loud barking heard as water rapidly filled the facility. The shelter added: “Rescue in progress.”

The post sparked concern online, with netizens urging rescuers to stay safe and save the animals.
By around 10am, the shelter confirmed that all dogs had been rescued unharmed. A photo showed more than 30 puppies drying off on towels provided by volunteers.
Netizens praised the rescue effort and expressed relief over the positive outcome.
