HKO to cancel all typhoon signals as Danas moves away

The Hong Kong Observatory announced it will cancel all tropical cyclone warning signals at 2.20pm Sunday as Typhoon Danas accelerates northeastward away from the territory.

The decision comes after the storm maintained a safe distance of about 440 kilometers east of Hong Kong at noon, moving toward the Taiwan Strait at approximately 10 km/h.

While the Standby Signal No. 1 remains in effect until cancellation, the forecastor confirmed Danas' compact circulation and departing trajectory pose diminishing threats to Hong Kong. The typhoon's rapid northeast movement over recent hours has significantly reduced potential impacts on the city.

Mariners and beachgoers are advised to remain cautious of lingering swells, with authorities warning the public to avoid shoreline activities and water sports despite the improving conditions.

The Observatory emphasized that sea conditions may remain unstable even after the typhoon warning cancellation.

Temperatures across multiple districts soared above 34°C by midday, with the scorching conditions expected to trigger afternoon showers and squally thunderstorms.

Weather officials predict the extreme heat will persist in Guangdong over coming days, maintaining elevated risks of thermally-induced thunderstorms.
