Northbound residents are taking advantage of the handover holiday to travel to Shenzhen, while mainland visitors, attracted by the holiday promotions, are also visiting Hong Kong to spend.
As of around 10am, Luohu Port experienced smooth clearance procedures and moderate foot traffic, according to a reporter from Singtao Headline—The Standard's sister publication.
A Hong Kong resident surnamed Ng told reporters that he and his friends believed northbound consumption was the "best thing to do" during the holiday, as Shenzhen's dining sector offers better service and lower prices compared to Hong Kong.
He further criticized the aging workforce in Hong Kong's service industry, noting that consumers prefer interacting with younger, more energetic staff.
Another resident, surnamed Chu, said she preferred mainland food and admitted that she was not attracted by the dining promotions to stay in Hong Kong for the holiday.
However, some residents said they would stay in Hong Kong as much as possible, only traveling north during holidays when friends arranged the itinerary.
A mainland visitor surnamed Xiao said she travels from Foshan to Hong Kong multiple times each month, and visited the city today with friends to take advantage of the various handover discounts.
