A 60-year-old Vietnamese man, also a Hong Kong ID holder, was fatally struck by a private car attached to the police force in Mong Kok in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident occurred at around 3.16am when the vehicle, carrying several plainclothes officers, was traveling along Nathan Road toward Yau Ma Tei.
According to initial investigations, the victim allegedly crossed the road without using a nearby pedestrian crossing near the Prince Edward Road West intersection.
The 46-year-old male police officer driving the car reportedly failed to brake in time, hitting the man with such force that he was flung onto the windshield before being dragged under the vehicle. The police car continued for about 20 meters before stopping in the fast lane, after which the officers inside immediately reported the incident to superiors.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly and extricated the severely injured man, who was unconscious and suffered multiple traumas. He was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital but was pronounced dead at 4.34am.

The impact left the police car’s front severely damaged, with a dented hood, a misaligned license plate, and a shattered windshield. Shockingly, a clump of the victim’s hair remained lodged in the cracked glass.
An investigation is ongoing and the involved vehicle is understood to belong to the Mong Kok Police Station.
