A shocking video has surfaced online showing a private vehicle driving against traffic and over a pedestrian isalnd in Wong Chuk Hang, narrowly missing a bystander and completely ignoring a nearby parked police car.
The incident, which took place along Heung Yip Road near the Wong Chuk Hang MTR station, involved a silver-grey private car traveling in the wrong direction.
According to the viral footage, the vehicle came face-to-face with an oncoming minibus in the correct lane.
To escape the standoff, the driver of the private car reversed a few meters before steering left and driving completely over a pedestrian isalnd to realign the vehicle.
During this reckless maneuver, a male pedestrian who was in the middle of crossing the road was forced to halt abruptly and wait in the center of the road to avoid being struck.
The situation was made even more alarming by the presence of a police vehicle with flashing red and blue lights parked right next to the scene.
Despite the obvious law enforcement presence and the extreme danger posed to pedestrians, the driver successfully navigated back into the correct traffic lane and slowly drove away without stopping.
A witness at the scene recorded the entire sequence of events, audibly expressing extreme disbelief at the driver's blatant disregard for safety while reciting the vehicle's license plate number for the record.
The individual who captured and uploaded the footage later provided additional context online, explaining that the driver had made multiple confused attempts to turn at the junction prior to the recorded incident.
The witness noted that the driver severely misjudged the route and, despite being honked at by the minibus and causing a traffic obstruction, chose to execute the highly dangerous manoeuvre over the pedestrian island.
Online commenters analyzing the video speculated that the driver was likely trying to enter the Wong Chuk Hang station but mistakenly turned one junction too early, ending up in the exit lane designated for buses and minibuses.
The footage has sparked outrage across social media platforms, with numerous users condemning the act as a severe road hazard and arguing that such irresponsible behavior demonstrates a clear unfitness to hold a driving license.
