Under a trough of low pressure, the Observatory anticipated heavy showers and thunderstorms from today through Thursday (May 29).
As the low-pressure trough moves into the northern part of the South China Sea in the coming days, showers are expected to ease off starting Friday (May 30), but strong winds will persist until the Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday (May 31).
Characterized by occasional heavy rainfall, the weather watchdog noted that increased rainfall and squally thunderstorms are expected on Thursday as a low-pressure trough forms over the northern part of South China.
According to the 9-day weather forecast, hot and showery weather is expected this week, with sunny intervals over the next nine days.
During the Dragon Boat Festival, temperatures are anticipated to range from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius, with windy conditions and one or two showers in between sunny periods.
Traditionally, the weather during the Dragon Boat Festival can be quite warm, with average maximum temperatures around 31 degrees. However, the Observatory indicated that this year’s festival will be cooler due to the easterly winds.
