A 19-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly selling fake tickets to Taiwanese rock band Mayday’s concert that caused a victim to lose HK$14,000.
The victim bought six Mayday concert tickets from an online platform and set up a trade with the seller last Tuesday (May 6). She received the physical tickets and paid the seller electronically.
She did not realize the tickets were fake until three days later when concert staff at ticket checks declared hers invalid on Friday (May 9).
The next day on Saturday (May 10), the seller set up another trade with the victim to exchange two tickets to the concert of Taiwanese singer Jay Chou. The victim called the police about the alleged fraud.
In an operation staged by the Sau Mau Ping District crime unit the same day, officers arrested a 19-year-old woman at Kai Tak Station on suspicion of obtaining property by deception, and seized the relevant counterfeit tickets.
Police reiterated that anyone who violates section 17 of the Theft Ordinance by obtaining property by deception may face a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.
