More highly anticipated concerts are coming to Hong Kong as the city’s new stadium in the Kai Tak Sports Park, which recently hosted British band Coldplay, has impressed many event organizers, culture secretary Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said.
Following performances by Coldplay and Cantopop icon Nicholas Tse Tingfung, noted artists including Singaporean singer JJ Lin, Taiwanese singer Jay Chou, and Taiwanese rock band Mayday will also be staging their concerts at the Kai Tak Stadium.
In a Bloomberg interview, Law revealed a growing interest in the 50,000-seat venue.
“I already heard from organizers that they are very enticed by the stadium, and they want to bring their best shows in Hong Kong,” Law said.
“I can tell you, that we are having more concerts, very much anticipated. But because the organizers have not yet announced them, we cannot announce them at this point. But watch this space.”
Law also assured that the government is taking greater precaution after past mishaps, such as Argentine footballer Lionel Messi’s absence in a display match last year, by avoiding reliance on a single star and implementing contractual terms.
The interviewer mentioned Singapore’s efforts in securing international star Taylor Swift’s exclusive concert stop in Southeast Asia, and asked whether Hong Kong is willing to pay the money in similar endeavors to attract prominent performers.
Law only responded by saying that every city has its uniqueness as she underscored the government’s transparency in funding mega events to come to Hong Kong.
