Falling examination lamp hit two at Hong Kong Adventist Hospital - Tsuen Wan

An examination lamp suddenly fell in a treatment room at Hong Kong Adventist Hospital - Tsuen Wan (HKAH-TW), hitting two healthcare staff.

The Department of Health announced a day after the incident, which happened on Sunday (Mar 23) night, that the examination lamp "Polaris 50" fell and hit two healthcare staff who were trying to adjust it. 

The duo did not suffer any significant injuries and did not require hospitalization for treatment. The patient and doctor were not injured.

After the incident, The hospital stopped using the concerned room and asked the supplier to immediately send staff to inspect all examination lamps of the same model to ensure safety. 

As a precautionary measure, the HKAH-TW has also requested the supplier to inspect all lights manufactured by the same supplier (Draeger Hong Kong Limited) but of different models in the hospital. 

The Department of Health has requested HKAH-TW to submit an investigation report.

It has also issued a special alert to inform the stakeholders in Hong Kong that they should contact the local supplier if they are using Polaris 50.

The department has requested Draeger Hong Kong to notify the affected customers and take follow-up action proactively.
