CAVALLUNA to make Asian debut in Hong Kong with 54 horses bringing magical adventure to life

Equestrian theatre production “CAVALLUNA – Gate to the Otherworld”, to be staged in Hong Kong on 8 and 10-13 September, is much more than just a horse show. It is a family entertainment spectacle that celebrates the special bond between humans and horses.

Having captivated millions of spectators across Europe, “CAVALLUNA – Gate to the Otherworld” is making its Asian debut when it comes to Hong Kong next month, bringing 54 magnificent European horses to the stage of Kai Tak Arena. Presented by The Hong Kong Jockey Club as Exclusive Presenting Partner and Cultural Host, the production is also one of the highlights of the Club's Year of the Horse campaign. 

Beyond celebrating the timeless bond between humans and horses, the production promises a world-class cultural experience for locals and visitors alike, helping to promote tourism in Hong Kong. The event has also received support from the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the HKSAR Government.

Created by an Emmy Award-nominated creative team, “CAVALLUNA – Gate to the Otherworld” has been a crowd favourite across Europe for many years. The production’s horses travelling to Hong Kong range from majestic Spanish Andalusians and graceful Friesians to charming mini Shetland ponies. Together with internationally acclaimed riders, dancers and performers, they will bring the magic of a fantasy world to life on stage. 

 There is no shortage of spectacle in CAVALLUNA. Highlights include the awe-inspiring Hungarian Post, in which a rider stands atop two galloping horses, and captivating “liberty horse” performances, where the horses move freely without reins. At the heart of the production’s story is the adventure of a young sorceress, Meerin, who journeys to a fantasy world in search of courage and self-discovery. Brought to life through cinematic staging, dazzling lighting effects and original music, the production immerses audiences in a magical world of adventure, imagination and wonder.

The Jockey Club is providing holistic support for CAVALLUNA during its Hong Kong production, including veterinary and farriery services, and bio-security and equine logistics assistance, to ensure the well-being of the show’s horses.
