The dashcam video circulating online on Thursday depicts a man dressed in a black shirt riding the electric unicycle amidst bustling traffic on Sai Lau Kok Road.
In a split second, he lost his balance and rolled on the ground just as a Rehabus approached, nearly running him over.
Fortunately, the driver managed to stop just in time, preventing a more serious incident. The man quickly stood up and left the scene with his electric unicycle.
The video elicited a flurry of negative responses online, with many criticizing the man for putting other drivers and pedestrians in danger.
While some commenters laughed at the incident, stating that he was acting cool but causing trouble to others, others called for stricter regulations for electric mobility devices.
Under the Road Traffic Ordinance, anyone driving an unregistered and unlicensed vehicle on roads, paveways or cycle tracks could face up to a HK$10,000 fine and 12 months imprisonment.
