The WEMP Foundation, founded by Adrian Cheng Chi-kong, has made a significant impact by supporting nearly 200 families with children suffering from mental health disorders over the past three years.
“WEMP,” which stands for Well-being, Emotional Intelligence, Mental Health, and Parenting, is a non-profit organization comprising business elites, scholars, social workers, psychologists, and educators.
The foundation is dedicated to helping families facing mental distress overcome challenges and eliminate thoughts of self-harm.
Founder Cheng, who also serves as the CEO of New World Development Company Limited, said the foundation's mission on WEMP's website: “Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders.”
He believes that mental wellness is crucial for all children and that it is the responsibility of society to educate, nurture, and empower them to build a better future for themselves and the world.
On Sunday, WEMP CEO Alex Mo Tik-sang shared that the organization has assisted nearly 200 families in distress through the intervention of social workers and psychologists.
He highlighted an extreme case involving a jobless father, a depressed mother, and children struggling with mental health issues.
This family faced starvation, suicidal tendencies, and long wait times for help from the Hospital Authority and other organizations.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Mo said that WEMP acted swiftly by providing funds for basic needs and offering mental counseling to prevent suicide.
According to Cheng, WEMP aims to deliver mental health education and counseling at grassroots levels while collaborating with international higher education institutions to develop effective methods for alleviating children’s mental health issues.
The foundation aspires to become an international service provider, further extending its reach and impact.
