MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes attended the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of the event in promoting Macao as an attractive travel destination, particularly during the off-season leading up to Easter.
Highlighting Macao’s unique culture at a themed exhibition
MGTO’s booth at the expo focuses on the theme of “The Historic Centre of Macao,” highlighting the city’s unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures. The design incorporates iconic architectural elements inspired by European churches, with a central arch featuring an outline of The Ruins of St. Paul’s. Neon lighting and visual effects further enhance the display, showcasing Macao’s UNESCO-listed World Heritage sites and its reputation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
Visitors to the booth can explore interactive features, including information on the Macao Light Rapid Transit system and an AI-powered photo zone. Activities such as quiz games and meet-and-greets with “Mak Mak,” Macao’s tourism mascot, provide additional engagement for attendees. Visitors can also win prizes and collect souvenirs by following MGTO’s social media accounts.
Exclusive travel deals for Hong Kong visitors
To encourage travel to Macao, MGTO has partnered with four leading Hong Kong travel agencies—China Travel Service, EGL Tours, Wing On Travel, and KKday—to offer exclusive packages during the expo. These deals include discounts on accommodations, dining, and transportation. Visitors purchasing packages above a certain value can participate in the “Mak Mak Gifts Redemption” interactive game to win special souvenirs.
Strengthening Macao’s position as a top destination
Hong Kong remains Macao’s second-largest visitor source market, with over 7.1 million Hong Kong travelers visiting in the past year. MGTO is leveraging the expo to maintain and grow this critical market, promoting Macao’s appeal as a vibrant, world-class travel destination.
The tourism office is combining online and offline promotional efforts to attract more visitors and reinforce the city’s position as an international tourism hub. By showcasing its cultural heritage, gastronomy, and modern attractions, MGTO aims to draw even more Hong Kong visitors to Macao in the coming months.
The Hong Kong Holiday & Travel Expo 2025 serves as a strategic platform for MGTO to highlight Macao’s unique charm and further boost visitor arrivals in the region.
