Taichung department store explosion leaves two Macau residents dead, one injured

A suspected gas explosion at the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store in Taichung, Taiwan has killed at least six people and injured another six on Thursday. It was understood that three of them, two deceased and one critically injured, were Macau residents.

Sources said a family of seven from Macau was involved in the accident.

Both grandparents of the family died in the blast, while a two-year-old girl Tang is currently in critical condition.

It was reported that the family was below the building passing through when the blast occurred, with the three hit by falling debris.

The Macau Government Tourist Office expressed deep concern upon receiving reports of Macau residents involved in the accident, also pledging support to the affected individuals. 

It also said efforts are being made to establish contact with the families to offer necessary assistance.

Meanwhile, authorities said there are currently no Macau tour groups present at the region where the tragedy occurred.
