The customer suspected that the shop was using a “cutting board barrier” to mislead customers, providing portions smaller than designated.
The man visited the siu mei shop on Po Heung Street for the first time on Tuesday, Lunar New Year's Eve. He was persuaded to buy half a roast goose for HK$200, having been convinced it was a better deal than the lower portion priced at HK$150. He also selected a HK$63 piece of roasted crispy pork, bringing the total to HK$263.
However, the man later found the given portion of the goose was smaller than expected, with the meat rattling loosely in the box, even with the goose head included.
As for the roasted crispy pork, he expressed concerns that the chosen piece was swapped, stating, "When I opened the box, it was completely different — filled with a lot of skin and no meat."
The man slammed the shop for using a high barrier in front of the cutting board to hide their deceptive practices, urging others to find shops where they could see the preparation area clearly.
Their post drew comments from others sharing similar experiences, with many agreeing such scams are common. Some advised positioning oneself to see the preparation area, while others reported rude treatment from the shop staff involved.
