An intense winter monsoon has brought cold and very dry weather to the southern coast of China, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
Urban areas in the city recorded a minimum temperature of around 10 degrees Celsius around 7:30 am, while Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong's highest peak, plunged to just 1 degree Celsius.
Despite the cold spell, some citizens ventured out for hikes on Tai Mo Shan.
One hiker, Wong, noted that it felt colder than usual, prompting him to bundle up in a down jacket and hat, along with body warmers and hot water.
Another couple expressed disappointment at not being able to see frost on the mountain, hoping to catch a glimpse but finding none on Monday morning.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the chilly weather will persist, particularly in the mornings and evenings.
“It will be very cold over parts of the New Territories and on high ground tomorrow morning,” it warned.
