This followed Yu’s revelations of the 29-year-old male victim who was rescued on Sunday on a radio program Tuesday.
Tang said that the male victim is safe in Thailand, and designated task force members from the Security Bureau, police and Immigration Department traveled to the Thai capital also on Tuesday.
He reported that 17 victims have returned to Hong Kong, 10 are being actively rescued and one is still in Thailand.
Without naming him, Tang acknowledged Yu for providing “psychological assistance” to the victim’s family and expressing gratitude for his efforts.
But he reiterated that disclosing such information publicly might not be beneficial for those who have yet to be rescued.
Tang confirmed that the designated task force is in contact with the victim’s family and clarified that they did not pay any ransom.
He said the task force is working with Thai authorities and the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, along with members of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Thailand, to bring the victim back as soon as possible.
