An upcoming exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of Art brings to town a treasure trove of masterpieces by two pivotal figures of the Impressionist movement, Paul Cézanne and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Titled "The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Cézanne and Renoir Looking at the World – Masterpieces from the Musée de l'Orangerie and the Musée d'Orsay", the exhibition will run from 17 January to 7 May and is the first large-scale display of the artists' work in the region.

Solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the exhibition is one of the activities marking the Club’s 140th anniversary. There are 52 exhibits in all, mostly works by Cézanne and Renoir, but also two paintings by the famed Spanish pioneer of Cubism, Pablo Picasso.
It will also feature unique interactive experiences. Visitors can step onto a train specially built for the exhibition and embark on a visual journey into the artistic careers of Cézanne and Renoir. This feature provides a fun way to learn about the lives and contributions of these artistic legends.
A fascinating aspect of the exhibition, produced exclusively for Hong Kong, is a simulated conversation between Cézanne and Renoir. Imagine eavesdropping on these two geniuses discussing their creative ideas.
Adding a local twist, the exhibition will showcase work by contemporary Hong Kong artists that has been inspired by the two French masters. In line with its commitment to culturally enriching the community, the Jockey Club is also supporting a variety of educational programmes alongside the exhibition, including talk series and guided tours, to deepen the public’s understanding of Impressionism.
The Club is dedicated to supporting arts and cultural projects with the aim of contributing to Hong Kong’s development as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, in line with the national 14th Five-Year Plan. The Club’s support for this exhibition, like all its charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax contributions, charity support and employment opportunities for the community.

Officiating at the opening ceremony of the exhibition were HKSAR Government Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law (3rd left); Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Michael Lee (3rd right); Head of International Exhibition Projects of the Musée d'Orsay Stephanie De Brabander (2nd left); Chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee Professor Douglas So (2nd right); HKSAR Government Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Manda Chan (1st left); and Museum Director of the Hong Kong Museum of Art Dr Maria Mok (1st right).
