Hong Kong faces its hottest Mid-Autumn Festival as the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) announced on Tuesday afternoon that the highest temperature recorded was 35.5 degrees, making it the hottest Mid-Autumn Festival on record.
The weather watchdog stated that a northeast monsoon is affecting the coast of Guangdong. Locally, the weather was extremely hot, until 1.30 pm, the maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory was 35.5 degrees, the hottest Mid-Autumn Festival ever recorded and also the highest so far this year.
The Observatory forecasts the weather to be extremely hot with sunny periods in the afternoon, with the maximum temperature being about 35 degrees.
It is expected to become cloudy with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms later. With northeasterly winds becoming easterlies tonight, fresh offshore.
Besides, the area of low pressure over the central part of the South China Sea is intensifying gradually, with a tropical cyclone appearing to be forming.
The weather watchdog forecasted that the weather will be mostly fine on the day after Mid-Autumn Festival and will be windy. There will be sunny intervals and a few showers in the following couple of days.
As winds will strengthen from the north early next week. It is expected to be slightly cooler.
According to the nine-day weather forecast, the northeast monsoon is expected to moderate slightly over the weekend, while another surge of the northeast monsoon will arrive in southern China on Sunday (Sep 22), resulting in slightly cooler weather in the region from early to mid next week.
Tropical Cyclone Pulasan will move in the general direction of the vicinity of the Ryukyu Islands in the next couple of days.
While the Tropical Cyclone Bebinca will move inland over eastern China and dissipate gradually today.
