The result came from a survey conducted by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) with 802 Form Five and 513 Form Six students from May 10 to June 24.
Among them, 84 percent consider choosing subjects related to jobs that are not easily replaced by AI, while 66 percent of students might pick subjects related to AI.
However, 65 percent of respondents admitted they do not know much about AI-related topics.
Almost 85 percent said they would choose subjects based on their own interests and career prospects.
Six out of ten students were worried and confused about their future journeys.
"Students should not blindly follow the trend of AI. They should have a thorough understanding of the content of each subject and make decisions after careful consideration," a supervisor for HKFYG Andy Chan Ying-kit remarked.
He also observed that more students were feeling anxious compared to the previous year. He attributed these concerns to the intensifying uncertainty among the youth about Hong Kong's economic environment and their future.
