A 22-year-old woman was arrested in the New Territories on Friday for suspectedly having disclosed the personal data of her ex-boyfriend after a breakup.

The investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data showed that the victim and the arrested woman once were in a relationship, but their relationship came to an end last December.
Shortly after the breakup, a message containing the personal data of the victim was posted in a public discussion group on a social media platform, alongside some negative comments against him.
The personal data disclosed included the victim’s Chinese name, photo, and a partly redacted copy of his HKID card, which showed particulars, including his Chinese name, English name, partial HKID card number, date of birth, gender, and photo.
The woman has been granted bail, and the PCPD said it would continue its investigation into the case.
The PCPD reminded the public that identity cards contain sensitive personal data. Disclosing or re-posting copies of identity cards without the consent of the data subject concerned may constitute a doxxing offense.
An offender could face a fine of up to HK$1 million and five years’ imprisonment.
