Marine police mounted an inter-departmental operation on Monday along with customs and seized around 400 kilograms of suspected smuggled lobster with a market value of about HK$330,000.
After conducting an in-depth investigation and intelligence analysis, it was suspected that there had been some criminals conducting smuggling operations near Tong Fuk, located on Lantau Island.
During the operation, the officers found two suspicious speedboats that had not turned on their navigation lights and were arriving near the Tong Fuk pier.
At the same time, a seven-seater sedan was arriving near the same location, and five men came out of the vehicle to move products from the sedan to the boat.
Officers took action, and the five men immediately jumped into one of the speedboats and headed south at high speed, while the other speedboat fled west.
The marine police began to intercept them, but the two speedboats were able to flee into the mainland waters.
During the operation, they were able to seize one seven-seater sedan and 21 boxes of suspected smuggled lobster weighing around 400 kilograms with a market value of about HK$330,000.
The case is currently under investigation by Customs.
