The temperatures further decreased by 2 to 3 degrees in areas around the New Territories. In Tai Mo Shan, the mercury dipped below zero at minus 2.4 degrees.
Tate’s Cairn, also known as Tai Lo Shan, and Ngong Ping also recorded the temperatures at 0.9 and 0.7 degrees.
The warning is still in force as of noon and citizens are reminded to put on warm clothes and ensure adequate indoor ventilation.
“Owing to possible icing conditions on high ground, members of the public, motorists and cyclists should be aware of the danger on slippery roads,” the observatory said.
The weather watchdog also reminded Hongkongers to prepare for a very cold morning tomorrow (Wed).
“It will still be cold in the morning on Thursday and Friday. It will be brighter during the day and cool in the morning and at night over the weekend,” it said.

Hongkongers put on more warm clothes amid the blistering cold on Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024.
