Starry Lee Wai-king, Hong Kong’s sole delegate to the National People’s Congress, left the city for Beijing on Sunday to attend the five-day Standing Committee meeting.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, Lee said she will strive to meet with leaders of the Chinese Customs to thank them for hearing citizens’ calls and canceling the “black code” health declaration requirement for border crossing.
Lee also pointed out that this is the last Standing Committee meeting in 2023 and the agenda is rich, covering six bills, eight proposals and 16 reports.
The content includes the State Council’s 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economy and Social Development, as well as the interim report for the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035.
She noted that many of the bills have proceeded to second or third reading already, indicating the serious nature of the work of the Standing Committee of the NPC.
The meeting will be held from tomorrow (Dec 25) to this Friday.
Also traveling to Beijing are Hong Kong’s deputies to the NPC Brave Chan Yung and Cally Kwong Mei-wan.
