A woman was fired from her job after her employer found out she had abandoned a two-month-old mongrel she had adopted from an animal shelter.
The group Mongrels Family on Thursday wrote on social media that they found out a woman, who previously adopted a two-month-old mongrel from them in May, had abandoned the dog.
It was said that the mongrel was handed over to the woman on May 1, with volunteers from the organization keeping tabs on the dog’s living conditions till mid-June.
Since failing to receive updates on the dog, volunteers traveled to the woman’s home but could not locate the dog. Volunteers also were unable to reach the woman.
It wasn't until August 2 that the volunteers finally got ahold of the woman and were told that the mongrel had been handed over to her relatives.
Upon contacting her relatives the next day, the volunteers were shocked to learn that the mongrel had been abandoned at a car park near the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals a month ago.
Writing on Facebook, the group said the woman’s actions were outrageous - having essentially handed the two-month-old dog a death sentence by abandoning him.
The group also said they had told every adopter to reach out to them should they encounter difficulties keeping the dogs.
According to sources, the woman works at an employment agency. It was said that after her employer read about the news, the woman was fired from her job, with the employer saying her actions were “irresponsible and disgusting.”
On Friday, the group updated on Facebook that volunteers could have located the dog - which they suspected was taken in by a good samaritan, adding that they will keep netizens updated.
