Pro-establishment lawmaker Eunice Yung Hoi-yan on Tuesday dismissed rumors of publishing a statement in newspapers to divorce her husband, Derek Yuen Mi-chang, if he is proven to be involved in activities endangering national security.
Forty-five-year-old Yuen, a political analyst, and Yung, 46, were taken away Monday by the national security police for questioning.
Yuen’s father, Elmer Yuen Gong-yi, who co-founded the Hong Kong Parliament with other activists in Canada last July, now has a HK$1 million bounty on his head over national security charges.
“If Derek Yuen Mi-chang is proved to be involved in activities endangering national security, I do not rule out the possibility of ending our marriage and fighting for the custody of our two daughters through legal means,” read the newspaper statement circulated online.
In reply to media inquiries, Yung said: “It’s fake. I didn’t publish this statement!”
Yung refused to further comment on the matter and said a criminal investigation is underway.
Yung yesterday revealed she conducted a three-hour video meeting at the Western Police Station after she was taken away by police. She continued she didn’t have much information about Elmer Yuen, not even his phone number or address.
She stressed she told the police everything she knew and rendered full assistance in the investigation.
Yung added her relationship with Derek Yuen remains the same and believes she was only taken away because she lives under the same roof as Derek Yuen.
