Star cyclist and Olympic medalist Sarah Lee Wai-sze revealed her retirement on Monday and to take up the coaching role of the Hong Kong Cycling Team in the future.
The 36-year-old world-renowned cyclist, known as the "Cycling Goddess of Lower Ngau Tau Kok Estate", became the first local athlete to win medals at two Olympic Games by grabbing bronze in women's keirin at the 2012 London Games and also the sprint event at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Lee announced she had retired from professional cycling when attending her graduation ceremony today (June 5) at the Hong Kong Baptist University, bringing the curtain down on her nearly two-decade professional career.
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Hongkongers, her coach and the cycling team.
Lee represented Hong Kong in the Olympic Games for three times. She also brought glory to the city by winning five golds at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Asian Games.
She also won three gold medals in the 2013 and 2019 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.
