The police's director of management services Rebecca Lam Hiu-tong is set to serve on the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR, according to a source.
Lam will serve as the second-in-command of the committee in charge of maintaining the national security of the city under Secretary-general Sonny Au Chi-kwong, according to Sing Tao Daily, the sister publication of The Standard.
Lam joined the Police Force in 1989 as an inspector, having experience in frontline command, criminal investigation, and security intelligence.
She was seconded to the Security Bureau as the Assistant Secretary for Security between 2006 and 2007.
In 2016, Lam was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police and discharged duties as the Regional Commander of Marine and the Assistant Commissioner of Support.
In July 2020, Lam took command of the Management Services Department upon promotion to Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police.
She was awarded the Chief Executive's Commendation for Government and Public Service in 2016, the Hong Kong ICAC Medal for Meritorious Service, and the Hong Kong Police Medal for Distinguished Service in July and November last year, respectively.
