The Hong Kong government announced that 5,000 train tickets respectively will be offered daily from today for commuters to depart from or arrive in Hong Kong from Sunday (January 15).
Passengers will not be required to register for a border-crossing quota in advance if they have bought a ticket, said Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung.
"We will gradually increase the capacity and the number of tickets available by reviewing the passenger demand during the initial stage after the resumption of high-speed rail train’s operation," Lam said.
However, he added that the high-speed train will only provide schedules currently for long-distance journeys from Hong Kong to around Guangdong province and no further.
The first high-speed rail trains will relaunch operation on January 15, carrying passengers to travel between Hong Kong and mainland train stations, including Futian, Shenzhen North (Shenzhenbei), Guangzhou South (Guangzhounan), and the newly introduced Guangzhou East(Guangzhoudong) Stations.
Passengers can purchase tickets through the High-Speed Rail’s official website, China’s online train ticket booking platform "12306", or in person at station ticket counters.
