The Hong Kong leader originally planned to visit Guangzhou and Shenzhen today to meet with the leadership of Guangdong Province and Shenzhen but has now canceled the trip citing anti-epidemic concerns.
Speaking to reporters after attending a forum this morning, Lee said the meeting will be held virtually, adding that the arrangement is most convenient and efficient.
The CE pointed out that Hong Kong must strive to stay connected with the mainland and the rest of the world, but at the same time make sure the vulnerable are protected against Covid-19.
However, he stopped short of saying whether there’ll be any decisions on quarantine-free travel between the SAR and the mainland.
“This virtual meeting will also talk about our connection with the mainland. Of course, during our discussion, we will weigh out different options.
“To avoid confusion, I think it’s not appropriate to disclose details at this stage. But we will actively consider any options,” said Lee.
