[Video] Search underway after Ma On Shan hiker swept away by floodwater

An active search was underway after a male hiker was reportedly swept away by floodwaters this morning in Ma On Shan with the tropical cyclone signal No. 3 still hoisted.

The incident happened at 10.46am this morning, where the male hiker was hiking in Ma On Shan with three others.

The hiker was said to have been swept away by flash floods when they were at a waterfall known as the “Hero Waterfall” along the Ma Tai Stream, with the man nowhere to be seen.

Rescuers including police officers and firefighters were called on to the scene and a search of the area was underway. However, search and rescue helicopters of the Government Flying Service were unavailable at the moment due to the adverse weather.
