Hong Kong's second ranked police officer in the National Security Department, Frederic Choi Chin-pang, has been sent on leave after being detected in an unlicensed massage parlor during a police raid.
Choi is senior assistant commissioner and director of National Security and will face an investigation.
The police have confirmed that an officer is on leave pending investigation for misconduct, but declined to offer further details, RTHK reported.
The force said it attached great importance to the conduct of police officers and would conduct a fair and impartial investigation in accordance with established procedures.
Choi moved to the national security unit last year, having first joined the force as an inspector in 1995.
Choi is also among seven former and currently serving officers sanctioned by the United States in January for “developing, adopting, or implementing the National Security Law,” undermining Hong Kong’s autonomy.
